The Gospel Shield

One of the most important teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is that the Second Coming is imminent. We teach that God will come down and teach His people, but only after the many calamities that were predicted by Jesus Christ during his ministry. Mirroring our focus on the Second Coming, the Book of Mormon’s prophets were constantly preparing the people for the first coming of Christ, and his eventual ministry in the Americas. The gospel of Jesus Christ provides the strength and knowledge needed to survive the predicted storm.
Related to these truths, I was recently reading in the book of Alma about Ammon and his brethren teaching among the Lamanites. After Ammon and his brethren had completed their mission, Ammon boasted of their success and gave us many beautiful phrases. One beautiful verse that struck out to me about the importance of missionary work was Alma 26:6.
“Yea, they shall not be beaten down by the storm at the last day; yea, neither shall they be harrowed up by the whirlwinds; but when the storm cometh they shall be gathered together in their place, that the storm cannot penetrate to them; yea, neither shall they be driven with fierce winds whithersoever the enemy listeth to carry them.” - Ammon son of Mosiah, about the Lamanite converts to Jesus Christ.
This also resonates with me because of the continuous mention of the storm. I’m still not certain of the point of this website, or who my target audience may be, whether it be faithful Latter-day Saints or curious non-members, but the purpose of this content is to help provide a shield. These storms are real, whether they are literal physical storms, or calamitous spiritual storms sent from the devil himself. Christ is always there to help you overcome them, though, so I hope these thoughts bring you a little closer to him. Alma 26 gives a lot more beautiful teachings that inspire me and I hope inspire you.
Please read the scriptures for yourself, and learn of Christ.
